Holistic Medicine

Healing for the Mind, Body, and Spirit

Holistic medicine is a form of healing that considers the whole person—body, mind, and spirit—in the quest for optimal health and wellness. When one part is not working well or in conjunction with each other, it is believed to affect the whole person. Holistic Medicine focuses on the whole person rather than just on the illness or part of the body that is not healthy.

Holistic Medicine, sometimes referred to as CAM services, can be considered as Alternative (used by the general public and some healthcare practitioners to refer to medical techniques which are not known or accepted by Conventional or Allopathic Medical Practitioners) and Complementary (used mostly by Conventional Medical Practitioners to refer to non-invasive, non-pharmaceutical techniques used as a complement to conventional medical treatments such as drugs and surgery).

At Cancer Connection of Northwest Ohio, Inc., we use Complementary Holistic Medicine. We look at a patient’s lab work, medications, type of injury or surgery, type of chemotherapy and frequency, radiation therapy and frequency, along with the side effects being experienced.  Taking all of this into consideration, we work with the patient to achieve the best possible balance for what he or she is missing. All of our holistic treatments are open to anyone in the community but are free for those who are actively going through cancer treatments amd $25 for anyone with a history of cancer.

Jen Balogh, LMT, NDOM

Our Holistic Medicine Program Director

jenbaloghholisticmedShe has an extensive background working with all diseases of the body, especially cancer, by relieving side effects associated with chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and injury/surgery related issues. Jen uses Complementary Holistic Medicine to help balance the body—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. She works with all ages, from newborn through adult.
Jen uses techniques such as:

  • Oncology Massage for Pediatrics through Adult  – We take a special interest in all aspects of your healing no matter at what age you are affected by cancer. Each individual’s massage is specialized to what his or her own body needs for healing. No two treatments will ever be the same.
  • Gentle Scar Tissue Mobilization – This is a gentle technique specific to help release scar tissue and adhesions from post-surgery and post- radiation treatments to allow one’s lymphatic system to continue to flow freely.
  • Swedish Massage – Swedish massage is the most common and best known type of massage in the United States. It can be very relaxing and soothing or deep tissue and vigorous to meet all your needs.
  • Palliative Massage – This is the most frequently offered complementary therapy in Hospice care. It is designed specifically to address symptoms associated with quality of life issues and provides relief to patients in all stages of need and illness.
  • Pregnancy Massage– A gentle massage during the second and third trimester of pregnancy helps lower anxiety, decreases back and leg pain, improves sleep for mother and baby, decreases levels of the stress hormone Norepinephrine and increases levels of Serotonin and Dopamine.
  • Infant Massage– A gentle massage for infants can help with relaxation, growth and development, bonding issues, promote communication and improve sleep for the infant.
  • Native American Healing Massage– This is a gentle healing massage uniting the body, mind and spirit together to help with everyday physical, emotional and spiritual ailments.
  • Comfort Touch – A comforting touch promotes deep relaxation and relief from pain. It is an encompassing form of Acupressure that is safe and appropriate for all ages.
  • Reflexology – Reflexology is a relaxing and effective way to alleviate stress by working with the feet, hands and ears which corresponds to organs and systems of the body.  It reduces pain and enhances relaxation and sleep.
  • Healing Touch Spiritual Ministry – This ministry is based on early Christian teachings of how Jesus taught his Disciples the laying on of hands with prayer and anointing with healing oils.
  • Reiki – This is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.
  • Chakra Balancing – All living creatures have Chakras. These energy vortexes are the channels through which energy flows. Every Chakra has corresponding organs in our physical system. When one or more are blocked, it will result in imbalances for our entire system.
  • Spiritual Guidance – This guidance is for ANYONE in need of God’s healing prayer, baptism of faith and laying on of hands to help with easing fears, anger, concerns and sometimes resentments while going through cancer or any other issues that may arise in one’s life.
